President's Message

October 2024

 Hello everyone!

It was good to see everyone at our October event. I learned a thing or two about how important it is to take care of our lymph and immune system. Thank you, Sandi.

The next meeting is the AGM that is planned for Tuesday November 12th, and we ask that you consider joining the board of directors for a term or two. If you know someone that is interested in joining the board, put their name forward and we will contact them.

November speaker is Kasia Fryklund. Please see the events calendar on our website.

We are entering the season of Christmas craft markets, events and gatherings at the Scandinavian Community Centre.

This year on Sunday December 8th we are collaborating with the Norwegian House Society for our annual Christmas Lunch at 12:30 PM with a Santa visit. It’s a family event for young, old and everyone in between. More information to follow.

If you have ideas and would like to join us, please give me a call 778-773-5524.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you and encourage you to bring out new people. We’re always looking for new speakers so please contact me if you are interested or know someone that is.

For the November 12th meeting we will have “wear your favorite Scandinavian sweater”, if you have one, and this time we will have a prize!

On this Remembrance Day, we honor the extraordinary heroes who gave everything to protect our nation. Their bravery will never be forgotten.

June 17, 2024

Hello club members, Mid-summer is around the corner!

I had a wonderful trip to Norway and enjoyed being by the ocean, eating a lot of fish and seafood and celebrating May 17th in front of the Norwegian Royal Palace in Oslo. I even waved to the King and Queen!! Our trip started in Bergen, ferry to Fedje Island, drove to Stavanger, Kristiansand, Arendal and ended up in Oslo. All seventeen days sunshine!

With my brother Viktor and our cousin Oddny in front of “Slottet”

Some of you have asked about our scholarship/bursary application this year. We will be awarding one $1000 scholarship/bursary. The deadline to submit the application is July 19, 2024. For more info, please go to our updated website.

The board are looking forward to seeing most of you Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23 at the Mid-Summer Festival the theme this year is Folk Art and Folk costume. We encourage you to bring out new people to the festival.
“Munin” Viking ship is now at its forever “home” at the end of the Scandinavian Community center property, I hope you will be able to have a closer look during the Mid-summer festival. Great photo opportunity! Get your Viking on!

This fall we are moving our meetings to Tuesday evenings instead of Wednesday. We will have our first meeting Tuesday October 8th and the next on Tuesday November 12th.

The Family Christmas Party will be on Sunday December 8th together with Norwegian House Society.

Bring your significant other, friends and relatives. We’re always looking for new speakers so please contact me if you are interested or know someone that is.

Thank you for supporting our Club.
